The first chakra in the body is known as the Root Chakra (or Muladhara in Sanskrit). This chakra is not located in the feet, as some people mistakenly believe, but rather at the base of the spine. The color associated with this one is red, and the primal energy of this chakra is one that is designed to make sure that your energy is balanced on your journey through this world.
Think of it as the foundation to your spiritual house. You are laying the groundwork for your spirit to connect to the higher power of the universe and to be centered in such a way that balances you out. If your foundation is not properly aligned, then everything can fall apart. This ties into the spiritual imbalance in that it often shows up in the form of anxiety and fear. This fear can manifest when basic needs (housing, love, acceptance, water, etc) are not met. Physical symptoms of blockages in the Root Chakra can sometimes be tied to the colon, bladder, lower back, prostate, and eating disorders.
What causes trauma in the Root Chakra?
The Root Chakra is about knowing who you are and where you are going. It is about survival, and as such it can be a scary experience when it is out of alignment or blocked. As the name root suggests, it is the grounding line for your spiritual self, your anchor, and if it isn’t working you are left to feel adrift in a sea of chaos and emotions you may not understand.
People who have long-term issues with the Muladhara (sometimes stemming from childhood abuse or neglect), often operate out of fear and have behaviors that seek to control that fear through force rather than spiritually addressing the underlying issues.
How I am Trying to Help Focus the Healing Energy for the Root Chakra
The Root Chakra is important whether you are just beginning your journey through the chakras or are a well-versed yogi. I have been working on a oil based perfume blend that is designed specifically to address the needs of each of the chakras that can be used to help focus this energy either during meditation or during everyday use.
For the Muladhara I use a blend of blood orange, patchouli, amaryis, and vanilla. This combination of scents is specifically designed to help heal the Root Chakra so that you can begin to build your solid foundation.
Stones I use in association with this chakra include: smokey quartz, snowflake obsidian, hematite, black tourmaline, and unakite. I use stones and my own energy to charge these oils both while they are being blended and after the blend is set. For your own meditation purposes you can also use shungite, black kyanite, and tiger’s eye if you prefer.
