The fifth chakra is known as the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha in Sanskrit), and as the name implies it is tied into your throat and your ability to connect voice and language to truth, and the color associated with this chakra is blue. It covers the thyroid, jaw, tongue, mouth, neck, and larynx. If you speak from a place of truth and use your words to uncover the honesty in the world around you, then you are using the Throat Chakra to its full potential. Many people find that they have trouble with the throat chakra when they cannot express themselves or speak the truth.
For many people being true to yourself and expressing yourself in an authentic way is not something that comes very easily. You have to be able to say what you mean, and still be able to be around people, so being completely blunt is often not the answer, and in truth being blunt is that it is often delivered without tact or empathy, and this is not the same as speaking your personal truth. It is important to distinguish that as an overactive throat chakra could cause just as many issues as one that is closed.
What Causes Trauma in the Throat Chakra?
If you are someone who has not been able to speak your truth or express yourself for an extended period of time, then you might have issues with the throat chakra. Being stifled from allowing yourself room to access and voice your deepest held beliefs can be damaging in the long term. Also, if you are someone who has been put down for a long period of time about something (physical looks or difficulty learning or adapting to social situations), then you might have repressed some of what you wanted to say out of fear of being mocked. The first thing you can do to work on this is to start saying daily affirmations to yourself in front of a mirror. Remind yourself of your inner truth and let it out, vocalization is an important part of the healing process.
If you are someone who is working through damage to the Throat Chakra, then you will want to start practicing not only meditation, but also mindful listening and thoughtful dialogue. Listen to the conversations around you in such a way that you are not waiting for a place to interject, but rather so that you know and understand what is going on. Once you fully digest it, allow yourself to speak your honest opinions, but be sure that you continue to practice doing this with empathy and compassion for others.
How I am Trying to Focus the Healing Energy for the Throat Chakra
When you are trying to navigate the tricky slope of speaking your truth and opening the Vishuddha, one of the first things you can do is overstep or have a set back. I want to encourage you to keep at it, remember that this is not something you can do overnight. I have blended together an oil perfume that is designed to help you in this process. The combination I used was Rosalina, Spearmint, and Grapefruit.
While I am making the oils I use stones and my own energy to charge them. To do this I lay the stones out in a pattern and I charge the oils once when I am blending them together, and then again once the product is complete. The stones I used to do this were blue lace agate, angelite, lapis lazuli, sodalite, blue chalcedony, and celestite. For your own meditations you can use these or you may also use turquois, blue apetite, blue sapphire, and chrysocolla.
